Dr. Richard Routh

A rare mix of soldier, scientist, and strategist

Ric Routh grew up the son of a career Army officer, spending his formative years in Paris, Stuttgart, and Brussels before finishing high school in Colorado Springs. That early immersion in different cultures and value systems still shapes how he works with leadership teams today.

He graduated from the United States Military Academy at West Point in 1978 and began his career as an Army Signal Corps officer. Along the way he earned two Master's degrees — in Business Management and Computer Systems — and a Ph.D. in Artificial Intelligence, with a dissertation focused on Natural Language Understanding.

Career Timeline

Four decades building and advising

1978

West Point & the U.S. Army

Commissioned as a second lieutenant in the Signal Corps. Served as a platoon leader, battalion operations officer, and staff/executive officer for the Army Communications Command while completing his first Master's degree.

1980s

Founder, Army AI Training Center

After earning his Ph.D. in Artificial Intelligence at the Air Force Institute of Technology, Routh founded and directed the Army's first AI Training Center at Fort Gordon, GA — supervising development of more than 150 AI expert systems for all four military services and several federal agencies. He also served as a part-time adjunct technical advisor on AI to the Reagan White House.

1988

Co-Founder, GINESYS Corporation

Resigned his Army commission to help build GINESYS as its first vice president, later president — providing AI expert systems training, consulting, and implementation to corporate clients. Over the next decade he supervised development of 100+ expert system prototypes across industries.

2003

Executive Coach & Author

Began a career mentoring and coaching C-level executives that now spans more than 20 years and 80+ leaders. Published The Power of Role, a guide for executives navigating the political dynamics of large corporations.

Today

Tri7 Services, Victorum, & Beyond

Continues to lead Tri7 Services (a division of GINESYS) while serving as CEO/CTO of Victorum, Inc., which applies AI expert systems to analyze the subconscious beliefs that shape worldview.

Beyond the resume

Ric has been married to his wife Edie for over 40 years. Together they raised five children and now have eight grandchildren. He lives on a ranch in the mountains of western North Carolina, where he and Edie keep horses and a small herd of cattle.

He's an avid reader who studies ancient Hebrew and Greek, is active in his church, and serves as CEO of Great Commission Training Ministries, a nonprofit helping church leaders revitalize their calling.

Why it matters to clients

Executives don't hire Ric because of any one credential — they hire him because he has actually built things, led people under real pressure, and advised leaders at every level from battalion command to the boardroom. That range is what makes both the coaching and the AI strategy work land differently than it would from someone who has only done one or the other.
